Investors should see opportunity after Valvoline 's recent sell-off, Wells Fargo said. "VVV is a high quality operator w/ category-leading comps, accelerating unit growth and an asset-light model," he said. While electric vehicles present a long-term risk, "recent underperformance is sharp and we see opportunity." While he noted shares trade 13% above auto service providers, they are below auto part peers, high-growth retailers and restaurants. While Lantz admitted that the rise of electric vehicles creates a risk, Valvoline is in a better position than others.

With only a small fraction of the S & P 500 left to report quarterly earnings, investors are now turning their focus to another major hurdle for the markets and economy: the debt ceiling crisis. Earlier this week, we looked back to debt limit crisis of 2011 for potential lessons. The protracted fight ultimately ended in an agreement in early August of that year, but it was a choppy summertime ride for investors. Within the portfolio, Wynn Resorts will report Tuesday, after the closing bell, and Disney will report on Wednesday, after the closing bell. Estee Lauder (EL) and Emerson Electric (EMR) reported earnings before the opening bell.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyNEW YORK, Jan 12 (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) on Thursday named Anu Aiyengar as the sole head of its global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) franchise after co-head Dirk Albersmeier stepped down from the role, cementing her status as the only female executive leading global M&A on Wall Street. Albersmeier will take on a new "wholly client and transaction-focused role" within JPMorgan, according to the memo. "Going forward, Anu will be the sole head of our global M&A business and Dirk will focus exclusively on providing our clients with first-class M&A advice and continuing to mentor the next generation of M&A leaders," the memo said. Aiyengar, a JPMorgan veteran of more than two decades, has led the bank's M&A franchise since she was promoted to the role alongside Albersmeier in 2020.
Valvoline is a "compelling" buy for investors ahead of a planned split, according to RBC Capital Markets. "[We] think VVV will be a faster growing, higher margin business, with strong [free cash flow] generation," Shemesh wrote in a Tuesday note. The analyst expects Valvoline will have a "long runway of revenue growth and FCF" before greater electric vehicle adoption becomes an issue. "Bottom line – while accelerated EV adoption poses a risk to Valvoline, we think the risk lies further in the future than most would think," Shemesh wrote. Still, the analyst expects further upside from here.

Markets closed higher for the week after a stellar rally Thursday that saw Big Tech stocks soar on the back of weaker-than-expected consumer price index (CPI) data for October. The S & P 500 closed up more than 5% for the week, its best week since June. Meanwhile, Club holding Amazon (AMZN) is reportedly conducting a broad cost-cutting review , according to The Wall Street Journal.
